Statue of Liberty and New York Harbor
The Statue of Liberty is one of the most popular tourist destinations on the planet. As a result, it has become one of the most photographed locations around the world. Millions of tourists flock to the Statue each year as they gaze upon this monumental pedestal which offers them an iconic view of New York. But what is so unique about this statue that attracts millions of visitors each year?
The Statue of Liberty attracts visitors from around the world each and every year. It was originally built as a reaction to the tragic hurricane that devastated New York and left it with an ugly appearance. Designed by Christopher Columbus as a way to stop the Caribbean island from being taken over by the Spaniards, the Statue of Liberty serves as a stark symbol of freedom. Today, it serves as an outstanding universal value about which people are intrigued and attracted.
The statue, which stands at Battery Park, Brooklyn, New York, was designed by sculptor John Seldinger. In fact, it was designed during the same period as the original torch of American independence was carried into battle by our country’s forefathers. It contains an array of diverse elements such as an olive leaf that signifies peace, a bald eagle carrying a banner that reads “freedom,” and American Indians with their weapons and Native American figures around the periphery. The original torch was replaced by a replica which bore an eagle carrying a red, white, and blue American flag. This replica is the one that is carried into battle today.
The Statue of Liberty, along with the Statue of Liberty Historical Center, is perhaps one of the most visited sites by both national and international tourists. Visitors to the Statue of Liberty are greeted by a statue of liberty herself. Between these two statues is an area where hundreds of thousands of people have laid hands on books and other reading material regarding the history of the US. The bookends placed atop the pedestal represent the different freedoms guaranteed by the Bill of Rights and the Statue of Liberty holds her torch high as she protects American democracy.
Another statue of Liberty in New York City that is often compared to the Statue of Liberty and is even considered to be the same statue is the New York Harbor Bridge. The ferry that ferries can carry you across the harbor to Manhattan, which is where the Statue of Liberty resides. The New York Harbor Bridge has also been the subject of many songs and poems written about its beauty and serene atmosphere. After all, who could not want to gaze upon a setting like this, which is surrounded by millions of beautiful people and glittering with lights?
New York has lots of history and culture which is reflected in the architecture, streets, flags, festivals and customs that make up the city. For the many immigrants who made it to this great state there is no place better to celebrate your arrival than Liberty Square in New York City. There is no better way to show the world your greatness than with a statue of Liberty. It is truly the symbol of Americanness as she stands proudly on that grand bridge as hundreds of thousands of immigration ancestors came here to make a new life.
No matter how you look at it the Statue of Liberty holds a special place in the history of America and the world. When you look up into the statue of liberty you are gazing upon a woman holding a torch which is meant to guide immigrants to freedom. With her crown of thorns and chains the Statue of Liberty represents all the peoples of the world as well as the freedoms that they have right now.
One of the most striking parts of the Statue of Liberty’s crown is the words “give us your downtrodden.” The Statue of Liberty was made in NY and was meant to be seen at the New York Harbor. When you take a look around the New York Harbor Bridge, it is really quite amazing what those brave immigrants went through just to reach that point. The Statue of Liberty holds a special place in our history and we should never forget where they came from or why they were in America. Let’s not forget the gift that the Statue of Liberty gave every immigrant that came here and made this great country an everlasting nation.
