The Industrial Revolution in England and the United States
Industrial jobs are those that deal with the manufacture of industrial products through the actual production process. This includes moving raw materials from a factory to a worksite, making the manufactured goods, stabilizing the finished goods in a warehouse, transporting the goods to clients, and eventually shipping the items to their destinations. These processes can be automated or not. The line between an industrial job and a regular job really depends on what the company is looking for in an employee.
There are several different types of jobs in manufacturing. One such job is that of industrial engineers. Engineers perform evaluations and design new products. Some examples of this would be a manufacturer putting together a new machine, or assembling a part for a car. A designer would take an idea for an invention and create the blueprint. Industrial engineers also work on a design new machine or device.
With the industrial revolution, other roles were added to the list of industrial engineers. Many who have specialized in any of these fields have become consultants, university professors, or policy makers in their respective industries. Many in the United States feel that the industrial revolution created more jobs than it has taken credit for.
Many of the world’s industrial revolution breakthroughs occurred in England. Henry Ford’s assembly line production methods were originally invented in the UK. During the industrial revolution, the country built up a huge fleet of transport fleets. Some of the most notable such transportation fleets were the Great railroads of England and the world’s first passenger railroad, the National Oceanic railway.
The industrial revolution also made possible the development of many of today’s conveniences such as the television, radio, and the telephone. In the United States, the infamous cotton gin became a very important piece of equipment during the industrial revolution. Cotton gin manufacturers began to produce clothes that could be spun into thread by hand. Soon after this point in time, the cotton gin became one of the most important pieces of equipment in the country, second only to the Ford Motor Company. The impact of the industrial revolution on England’s society cannot be underestimated.
The Industrial Revolution marked the beginning of vast changes in England’s economic and political structure. Throughout the industrial age, the royalty and wealthy families experienced some degree of freedom previously unavailable to them. This gave them greater options when it came to investing and creating more wealth. For example, the industrial revolution gave the upper class more influence over the money supply and the role of money in society. With the Industrial Revolution, there was a greater demand for skilled tradespeople because they could perform tasks that were once only available to lower class citizens.
The Industrial Revolution marked the beginning of massive changes in the way Britain conducted business. One such significant development is the invention of the steam engine. By the end of the 1800s, the steam engine was the largest engine in the entire world. Other notable inventions include the textile machine, the cotton spinner and the sewing machine. All of these inventions and developments played a key role in the economic development of Britain during the industrial revolution.
Today, the United States and Britain are both members of what is now known as the European Union. Many people do not realize that the industrial revolution in Great Britain and the emergence of the European Union happened at almost the same time. The E.U. was created to protect against the negative effects of trade barriers between countries that do not have strong bilateral relationships. It is important to remember that the industrial revolution in Great Britain and the E.U. started just as the industrial revolution in the United States.
