A Guide to the United States’ Highest Mountains

    • Categories Article

If you enjoy hiking or camping, you know just how enjoyable it can be to trek up a mountain. But what if you were not able to use your regular hiking boots, or other hiking gear because of some type of injury? Would you still have the enjoyment of hiking, or would you have to look for other types of gear to keep you occupied and comfortable? Consider, if you may, that there are a number of different types of hiking equipment you can choose from, depending on whether you need it for a short hike, or longer.

Himalayas – If you are looking up into the heavens and want to see the world’s mountains in all their glory, you should consider hiking high into the Himalayan Mountains. A Himalayan mountain is an area of the earth’s crust with steep mountainsides that reveal prominent exposed limestone. In many cases, these mountains are climbed, which makes them even more spectacular. A Himalayan mountain is often quite a bit higher than a typical hill and is usually much larger than even a normal mountain range, frequently rising at least 300 feet above the surrounding landscape.

There are two kinds of hiking that are most common in the Himalayan Mountains. One requires you to climb a lengthy mountain grade, often using handholds and steps made of steep rock on steep cliffs. The other is called alpine trekking and consists of walking along a steep, often unforgiving slope, using regular hiking equipment. The best way to describe alpine trekking is that it is more like skiing downhill. The only difference is that you are on top of the mountain, rather than on the snow or ice.

Rockies  Some of the most beautiful landscapes in the world can be found in the western part of the United States. Many people spend a lot of time simply admiring these mountains from the air. The tallest mountains in Colorado are found in the Grand Canyon, and there are many other smaller mountains that are found in the north-eastern states. There is also the Alaska Railroad that offers trips up some of the world’s highest mountains as well.

The third kind of mountain to consider is that of the Sierra Nevadas. The highest point in the continental United States is reached by the Trans Californian Trail, so this is one thing that you definitely need to bring with you when planning a trip. Another mountain that can be visited in the Sierras is that of Mount Shasta, with its majestic height of 815 feet.

If you are planning to visit the Rocky Mountains, then perhaps the first thing that you should ask yourself is what type of mountain you want to visit. There are a few main categories of mountain that exist in the US. All of them have different unique features that set them apart. You can find mountains that are predominantly flat, such as those found in Maine and Washington state, or mountainous states like Colorado, Montana, and Alaska. However, if you are interested in visiting mountains that have a more unusual shape, such as those found in the Himalayas, New England, or Rockies, then it is possible to find a mountain anywhere in the United States.

Perhaps, the most important part of planning to go on a mountain hiking trip is to decide on which mountain you want to climb. There are four general types of mountains that exist in the US. These mountains range from the snow-capped Colorado, which is the tallest mountain in Colorado, to the Louisiana cliffs that can take the strongest winds in the northern region. Regardless, of which mountain you choose, there are a variety of things to do when you are up at the tallest peak.

Hiking, photography, mountaineering, geology, geomorphology, and hydrology are just some of the natural attractions you can enjoy when you are up at the highest mountains in the United States. There is a lot to do when you are up high in the air above the earth. However, one of the best parts of being up in the air is the ability to appreciate nature. When you are able to see the earth from above, you can truly say that you have been blessed.
