Technology Development in the Biotechnology Industry
Agrotechnics is a new field of agriculture and farming technologies based around improved systems of agriculture and farming. The scope is vast, with applications from food production and nutrition to energy production. There is now a wide array of biotechnology industry associations spanning across different sectors of the agricultural industry. These associations play a key role in educating farmers, technicians and decision makers about the importance and benefits of biotechnology technology. They also provide technical and financial support for the research, development, testing, and deployment of biotechnology technologies in agriculture. The Association of Biotechnology Plants (ABP), an organization that brings together biotechnology organizations and professionals, provides biotechnology industry articles, reports and general news. It also publishes a biotechnology journal.
The International Service for the Promotion of Genetically Modified Organisms (ISAGM) is a global membership organization promoting genetic engineering. ISAGM also publishes a journal, Issues in Biotechnology. The International Service for the Regulation of Genetically Modified Organisms (US FDA) is an independent federal agency that regulates the sale and labeling of genetically modified foods. The organization has published guidebooks and a Food Safety Manual.
A worldwide organization, the American Society of Agrotechnists (ASA) was formed in 1979 to bring together technical and marketing personnel from diverse backgrounds with an interest in pyrotechnics. ASA’s mission is “to promote and advance the use of pyrotechnics in the United States and abroad.” ASA also serves as a clearinghouse for information on new technologies in agriculture. ASA publishes an agriculture journal, Specialty Agriculture News, and letters to the editor that features articles written by members and guest authors. The society also publishes a magazine, Agriculture, which is distributed to member publications.
