Jobs in Civil Engineering
Engineering is the application of scientific principles in engineering, architecture, and construction to design and construct objects, such as buildings, bridges, tunnels, vehicles, and more. The knowledge gained from studying engineering helps individuals in many aspects of their lives. Students interested in engineering learn how various objects are put together, how they function, how they are maintained, how they affect the environment, and how they can be altered or improved. Engineering also has many applications that help people in everyday life.
One branch of engineering that everyone knows about is the military engineering. Engineers are responsible for maintaining the efficiency and safety of military bases, weaponry, and vehicles. Because of this, engineers must be skilled not only in design but also in testing. There are many different branches of military engineering, including ballistic, mechanical, civil, electrical, military intelligence, surveillance, tactical, unmanned aerial, construction, computer engineering, environmental, and more. An engineer can specialize in any of these fields, depending on their interests and job titles.
Another major part of engineering is manufacturing engineering. This involves the development and manufacture of a product. Materials scientists to test theories in engineering to determine how well products will perform based on their specifications and environmental factors. Materials engineers must test a product’s strength and durability based on what it’s built of, its expected life, and any possible materials that might be used and how they’ll be used.
In the real world, many engineers find themselves involved in many different areas of the engineering process. They may be involved in the planning of an engineering project, design, testing, maintenance, or repair. Some engineers may be involved in just a few of these areas or all of them. Regardless, of how many areas engineers work in, they all need a special skill set in order to be successful.
The median salary for graduates in mechanical engineering is expected to increase substantially over the next several years. That’s because mechanical engineering fields are expected to grow four percent through2019. The highest paying mechanical engineer jobs are expected to pay a minimum of ten thousand dollars a year. The lowest paying mechanical engineer jobs are expected to pay between eight hundred and three hundred dollars per year.
Graduate employment in the field of engineering will also continue to increase. Most engineering positions involve math, although engineers also use computer technology and design. Some engineers design the manufacturing process and others test manufacturing processes. Engineers also do research and test manufacturing processes as well as design new materials, equipment, and systems that will be used in manufacturing processes.
Graduates interested in engineering should pursue advanced degrees such as the sciences. MSciences programs allow engineers to focus on specific science and engineering principles. Students pursuing a degree can choose from Accounting, Computational Science, Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, Earth science, Environmental engineering, Industrial engineering, Public administration, Supply chain management, and Software engineering. An emphasis is placed on scientific and applied techniques in these various areas. In some cases, students work one to two years in a lab or on a research project. Many engineers apply their knowledge by participating in national laboratories and participating in scientific and technological conferences.
Employment opportunities for civil engineers are not limited to just industrial centers. There are many job opportunities available for them in metropolitan areas and cities. In larger cities, there are usually more than one hundred industrial companies, government agencies, public works institutions, and nonprofits that hire civil engineers. In addition, the construction industry employs a large number of civil engineers. Thus, civil engineering professionals are able to obtain jobs in almost any industry or place of employment.
