Richard Sherman Indicted On False Claims Of Domestic Violence
Richard Sherman is an American pro football corner who is now a free agent. He was originally drafted by the Seattle Seahawks at the 5th round of the 2021 NFL Draft. He was then selected to the Pro Bowl four times, earning acclaim as the NFL’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) in each of those campaigns. After missing the entire 2021 season with a dislocated knee, he signed a four-year deal with the rival San Francisco 49ers on March 11th. There’s no doubt that the addition of Sherman will make San Francisco’s secondary much more formidable, but how much do you know about Richard Sherman the football player?
Richard Sherman is from Cleveland, Ohio, and was one of three siblings born to Robert and Everette Sherman. His younger brothers are Michael and Bryan. It was apparent from an early age that Richard was not very well-liked by his peers and had to struggle to fit in, being the middle child of three of them. When he did make friends, however, it was his father, Robert, and his in-laws, John Elbert, and Latisha Harrell, who were considering the biggest fans of all of Richard’s childhood travails.
On July 7th, 2021 the wife of Richard Sherman’s father, Robert, received a divorce petition from their son, Kiro, stating that his father did not love him and wanted a divorce because of a domestic violence issue. According to an interview with ESPN’s Rachel Skipper, who conducted an in-depth interview with Sherman and his father, it was quite clear to both of them that the rift in the relationship wasn’t over because of the domestic violence issue, but rather because the wife wanted a promotion in the office. It seems that the original problem that was cited in the initial interview with ESPN’s Rachel Skipper was that Kiro didn’t want to do additional interviews to help clear up the situation, despite repeated attempts. He said he would talk to ESPN if they’d give him more time.
On August 6th, 2021 Richard Sherman was denied bail after being arrested following an arrest on suspicion of burglary domestic violence involving a female at the Pinellas County Jail. He had been charged with second-degree battery after an incident in which an arresting officer discovered him in the act of choking his girlfriend. He also faces one count of second-degree battery for an incident in which he allegedly choked his girlfriend during an argument following a disagreement regarding where the couple went to eat. He was initially released without a $500 bond after posting a one thousand dollar cash bond, according to the Pinellas County Court.
On the morning of August 8th, Seattle Police detectives responding to a call about shots fired in an apartment complex found Richard Sherman asleep on the ground. Officers subdued him and took him to the precinct for booking. According to the police report, the arresting detective later learned that Sherman had been released from jail due to insufficient evidence connecting him to the shooting. Detectives later learned that the victim had been robbed of her purse during the altercation.
On the same day of his arrest, Richard Sherman made two additional appearances in court, where he was again denied bail. He remained in the county jail until Friday when he was finally released after posting a one thousand dollar bond. He is scheduled to appear again in court on Wednesday, where he is expected to receive another bail amount. On Tuesday, Richard Sherman’s defense attorney, James Voigt, told the judge that he plans to ask that the judge drop the original charge of burglary domestic violence because there was no proof that Sherman commits the crime with his wife.
On Thursday, we were made aware of an arrest last night of one of our pro player leaders for an alleged domestic violence incident and have activated our domestic violence crisis protocol for the safety of everyone involved, including his wife. Richard Sherman was arrested after a female friend called 911 to report that she had seen him with his wife. She said that she asked Richard a number of questions regarding their marriage and he responded by telling her, “everybody knows I’m married.” Apparently, after being told multiple times by the woman that she was indeed seeing Richard Sherman with his wife, Richard got angry and told the arresting officer, “She said she was calling the police because she was upset because I wouldn’t let her call me anymore.”
Richard and Adam Sherman are in separate chambers right now, so we will have more to say about this situation later. Richard and Adam are both innocent. However, their arrest and the charges they are facing are in itself a tragedy. In order to protect the safety of children, the state is requiring Richard and Adam Sherman to remain in the King County Correctional Facility. The exact charges are as follows: one count of second-degree domestic violence which is a misdemeanor; two counts of first-degree domestic violence that is a felony; and one count of third-degree domestic violence that is a felony with a maximum sentence of four years in prison. If found guilty, Richard and Adam Sherman will have to pay their fines and must undergo a thorough background investigation before being released from jail.
